MD 1142 CONCERNING SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH 374...378... FOR WEST-CENTRAL TEXAS
Mesoscale Discussion 1142
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
0940 PM CDT Sun Jun 02 2024
Areas affected...West-central Texas
Concerning...Severe Thunderstorm Watch 374...378...
Valid 030240Z - 030445Z
The severe weather threat for Severe Thunderstorm Watch 374, 378
continues.
SUMMARY...An isolated severe threat will likely continue for a
couple more hours across parts of west-central Texas. Large hail and
severe wind gusts will be possible. The threat should become more
isolated with time, and new watch issuance is not expected.
DISCUSSION...Widely spaced thunderstorms are currently ongoing
across parts of west-central Texas. One more vigorous supercell is
located to the west of Childress, TX, with other cells southward
across the Low Rolling Plains to near the Rio Grande River. The
airmass along this corridor is strongly unstable, with MLCAPE in the
2500 to 3500 J/kg range. In addition, RAP forecast soundings along
this corridor have moderate deep-layer shear with relatively steep
mid-level lapse rates. The environment will be sufficient for an
isolated severe threat with cells that persist over the next hour or
two. However, instability will begin to weaken across the much of
the southern Plains, suggesting that any severe threat will become
marginal.

MD 1143 CONCERNING SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH 377...379... FOR EASTERN DAKOTAS/WESTERN MINNESOTA
Mesoscale Discussion 1143
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
0942 PM CDT Sun Jun 02 2024
Areas affected...Eastern Dakotas/Western Minnesota
Concerning...Severe Thunderstorm Watch 377...379...
Valid 030242Z - 030415Z
The severe weather threat for Severe Thunderstorm Watch 377, 379
continues.
SUMMARY...Marginally severe hail and gusty winds remain possible
with convection this evening.
DISCUSSION...Numerous thunderstorm clusters have developed across
southeast ND/eastern SD into western MN within a focused warm
advection corridor. LLJ is forecast to increase across MN into the
late-evening hours ahead of northern Plains short-wave trough.
Although surface warm front will continue to lift north ahead of the
short wave, much of central MN will struggle to destabilize due to
significant ongoing convection. As a result, primary area of
strong/locally severe convection should remain focused from extreme
southeast ND/eastern SD into southwestern MN. Over the next several
hours this activity will gradually stabilize/overturn instability
currently observed across this region. Marginally severe hail and
locally damaging winds remain the main risks.

MD 1141 CONCERNING SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH 375...376...382... FOR CENTRAL HIGH PLAINS
Mesoscale Discussion 1141
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
0822 PM CDT Sun Jun 02 2024
Areas affected...Central High Plains
Concerning...Severe Thunderstorm Watch 375...376...382...
Valid 030122Z - 030245Z
The severe weather threat for Severe Thunderstorm Watch 375, 376,
382 continues.
SUMMARY...Severe winds are likely with MCS as it propagates east
this evening.
DISCUSSION...Weak short-wave trough appears to be aiding central
High Plains convection early this evening. Over the last few hours,
scattered robust convection, some supercellular, has conglomerated
into an elongated MCS that stretches from ANW-LXN-GLD. Substantial
upscale growth has contributed to a severe complex that is surging
southeast at roughly 35kt. Numerous measured wind gusts in excess of
70kt have been reported with this MCS, and likely continues,
especially with the leading surge that is approaching Lexington NE.
This activity will spread across western portions of ww382 over the
next few hours.

MD 1140 CONCERNING SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH 373...380...381... FOR EAST TEXAS...CENTRAL AND NORTHERN LOUISIANA...FAR SOUTHWEST ARKANSAS
Mesoscale Discussion 1140
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
0746 PM CDT Sun Jun 02 2024
Areas affected...East Texas...Central and Northern Louisiana...Far
Southwest Arkansas
Concerning...Severe Thunderstorm Watch 373...380...381...
Valid 030046Z - 030245Z
The severe weather threat for Severe Thunderstorm Watch 373, 380,
381 continues.
SUMMARY...A severe threat is expected to maintained across much of
east Texas over the next few hours. Wind damage and hail will be the
primary threats. The severe threat is expected to impact far
southwest Arkansas and northern/western Louisiana later this
evening, where a watch or extension may be needed.
DISCUSSION...The latest mosaic radar imagery shows a linear MCS
ongoing across northeast Texas, with a warm advection wing of storms
extending southeastward into the Sabine River Valley. The airmass
ahead of the linear MCS is strongly unstable, with surface dewpoints
in the mid 70s F, and the RAP analyzing MLCAPE in the 3000 to 3500
J/kg range. The severe threat will likely be maintained with the
stronger cells embedded the MCS over the next few hours. The latest
WSR-88D VWP at Shreveport has 0-6 km shear near 60 knots with strong
speed shear in the mid-levels. In addition, mid-level flow appears
to be maximized behind the MCS, as evident on RAP analysis. This
should help continue a wind-damage threat along the leading edge of
the MCS, as it moves southeastward at about 30 knots. The line of
strong to severe storms will likely impact southwest Arkansas and
western/northern Louisiana later this evening, where new watch
issuance or an extension is possible.

The NWS Storm Prediction Center has issued a
* Severe Thunderstorm Watch for portions of
Northeast Colorado
Western and Central Nebraska
* Effective this Sunday afternoon and evening from 320 PM until
1100 PM CDT.
* Primary threats include...
Scattered damaging winds and isolated significant gusts to 80
mph likely
Scattered large hail and isolated very large hail events to 2.5
inches in diameter likely

SUMMARY...Scattered thunderstorms are forecast to continue to
develop and intensify over the Nebraska Panhandle and northeast
Colorado and move east into central Nebraska this evening. A few
supercells and severe thunderstorm clusters are expected with large
to very large hail, severe gusts (60-80 mph), and perhaps a tornado.
A forward-propagating linear cluster of storms will probably evolve
this evening with the main threat becoming severe gusts.
The severe thunderstorm watch area is approximately along and 80
statute miles north and south of a line from 35 miles south
southwest of Scottsbluff NE to 30 miles northeast of Burwell NE. For
a complete depiction of the watch see the associated watch outline
update (WOUS64 KWNS WOU5).

MD 1139 CONCERNING SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH 378... FOR WEST AND SOUTHWEST TEXAS
Mesoscale Discussion 1139
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
0708 PM CDT Sun Jun 02 2024
Areas affected...West and Southwest Texas
Concerning...Severe Thunderstorm Watch 378...
Valid 030008Z - 030215Z
The severe weather threat for Severe Thunderstorm Watch 378
continues.
SUMMARY...The severe threat across west Texas is expected to
continue over the next few hours. Large hail and severe wind gusts
will be possible, along with an isolated tornado threat. The severe
threat may affect areas of the far western Texas Hill Country later
this evening, where a watch could be needed.
DISCUSSION...The latest hi-resolution radar imagery from Midland, TX
shows a small cluster of severe storms located to the northeast of
Big Bend National Park. One supercell is ongoing in far eastern
Brewster County. The airmass ahead of this cluster is strongly
unstable, with the RAP analyzing MLCAPE in the 3000 to 4500 J/kg
range. RAP forecast soundings in this area have 0-6 km shear near 50
knots, with 700-500 mb lapse rates around 7.5 C/km. This environment
will continue to be favorable for supercells with large hail.
Hailstones greater than 2 inches in diameter, along with a few
severe wind gusts will be possible. Forecast soundings also have 0-3
km storm-relative helicity in the 150 to 200 m2/s2 range, suggesting
that any tornado threat will remain isolated. The tornado threat may
persist for a couple more hours. The cluster is expected to remain
organized for at least a few more hours, as it moves to the east of
WW 378. A new watch could become necessary if the cluster remains
intense.
