SPC Day 2 Fire Weather Outlook
Day 2 Fire Weather Outlook
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
0236 PM CDT Tue Apr 02 2024
Valid 031200Z - 041200Z
...NO CRITICAL AREAS...
The previous forecast reasoning (see below) remains the same, and no
additions were made with this update. The best overlap of dry/breezy
conditions is expected from south-central NE southward across
central KS during the afternoon. While elevated to locally/briefly
critical meteorological conditions are possible here, fuels do not
appear supportive of large fires at this time -- precluding
fire-weather highlights.
..Weinman.. 04/02/2024
.PREV DISCUSSION... /ISSUED 0143 AM CDT Tue Apr 02 2024/
...Synopsis...
A very strong upper low will develop across the Great Lakes on
Wednesday which will bring a dry and cool airmass to much of the
eastern CONUS. Dry and breezy conditions will also be present for
much of the Plains, but temperatures will be cool and fuels will be
moist which should limit the large fire threat.

MD 0349 CONCERNING TORNADO WATCH 75... FOR PARTS OF WESTERN/MIDDLE TENNESSEE INTO SOUTH-CENTRAL KENTUCKY
Mesoscale Discussion 0349
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
1225 PM CDT Tue Apr 02 2024
Areas affected...Parts of western/middle Tennessee into
south-central Kentucky
Concerning...Tornado Watch 75...
Valid 021725Z - 021930Z
The severe weather threat for Tornado Watch 75 continues.
SUMMARY...Ongoing convection in Middle Tennessee may intensify as it
ingests increasingly unstable parcels. Additional convection moving
northeast out of northern Mississippi may also move into WW 75.
DISCUSSION...Convection near Nashville has generally been
disorganized over the past hour. Heating to its east has been muted
on account of cloud cover/anvil debris. To its south/southeast,
greater heating has occurred and temperatures are in the low/mid 70s
F. Some intensification of this activity is possible. An increase in
low-level hodograph curvature is expected through the afternoon
which will continue to promote a risk of tornadoes in addition to
large hail and damaging winds.
Farther west, in the wake of morning convection, some broken cloud
cover is allowing surface heating. As the airmass tries to recover,
convection in northern Mississippi may intensify as it moves
northeast and be capable of a similar tornado, large hail, and wind
gusts threat.
