MD 1282 CONCERNING SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH 420... FOR NORTHEASTERN MONTANA
Mesoscale Discussion 1282 NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK 0826 PM CDT Sat Jun 15 2024 Areas affected...northeastern Montana Concerning...Severe Thunderstorm Watch 420... Valid 160126Z - 160230Z The severe weather threat for Severe Thunderstorm Watch 420 continues. SUMMARY...Risk of damaging winds increasing with eastward propagating line of severe storms across eastern Montana. DISCUSSION...A line of thunderstorms across eastern Montana has recently shown an increase in lightning activity, cooling cloud tops, and forward propagation speed. A recent report of a measured gust to 79 mph was observed near Fort Peck, MT. This line of storms will progress eastward into more favorable instability and steepening mid-level lapse rates. In addition, surface observations indicate better moisture with dew points in the mid 50s to 60s and temperatures in the low to mid 80s across far eastern Montana. The threat for damaging winds is increasing, with potential for gusts 60-70 mph with some instances of 75+ mph. ..Thornton.. 06/16/2024 ...Please see www.spc.noaa.gov for graphic product... MD 1279 CONCERNING TORNADO WATCH 418... FOR NORTHEAST NE INTO NORTHWEST IA AND EXTREME SOUTHEAST SD
Mesoscale Discussion 1279 NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK 0747 PM CDT Sat Jun 15 2024 Areas affected...Northeast NE into northwest IA and extreme southeast SD Concerning...Tornado Watch 418... Valid 160047Z - 160215Z The severe weather threat for Tornado Watch 418 continues. SUMMARY...The tornado threat will continue through dusk, along with some potential for locally damaging wind and hail. DISCUSSION...A supercell cluster has evolved across northeast NE this evening, with multiple reports of confirmed tornadoes over the last 1-2 hours. The immediate downstream environment remains favorable for tornadic supercells, with MLCAPE in excess of 2000 J/kg, backed surface winds, and rather strong low-level shear/SRH still noted in VWPs from KFSD and KOAX. Any persistent supercells will continue to pose a tornado threat through dusk within this environment, along with some isolated hail potential. With time, there is some potential for a small bowing segment to evolve out of the ongoing cluster, which could result in a somewhat greater threat for damaging wind as convection spreads into northwest IA, in addition to some continued tornado potential. ..Dean.. 06/16/2024 ...Please see www.spc.noaa.gov for graphic product... MD 1280 CONCERNING SEVERE POTENTIAL...WATCH LIKELY FOR WESTERN/CENTRAL NORTH DAKOTA
Mesoscale Discussion 1280 NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK 0755 PM CDT Sat Jun 15 2024 Areas affected...western/central North Dakota Concerning...Severe potential...Watch likely Valid 160055Z - 160200Z Probability of Watch Issuance...80 percent SUMMARY...Risk of severe storms with potential for large hail, damaging wind, and a tornado or two increasing into the evening. DISCUSSION...Supercells have developed across northern South Dakota and in western North Dakota this afternoon. Thunderstorm activity will increase this evening as a line of thunderstorms moves eastward out of Montana and additional thunderstorms develop along an eastward progressing cold front. These storms will be moving into an environment with favorable shear (40-50 kts 0-6 km) and instability (MLCAPE 2000-2500 J/kg) to support potential for a few discrete supercells and bowing linear segments capable of damaging winds, large hail, and a tornado or two. A watch will be needed soon to cover this threat. ..Thornton/Smith.. 06/16/2024 ...Please see www.spc.noaa.gov for graphic product... ATTN...WFO...FGF...ABR...BIS...UNR...BYZ...GGW... WW 419 SEVERE TSTM KS 152135Z - 160300Z
URGENT - IMMEDIATE BROADCAST REQUESTED Severe Thunderstorm Watch Number 419 NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK 435 PM CDT Sat Jun 15 2024 The NWS Storm Prediction Center has issued a * Severe Thunderstorm Watch for portions of Central and Eastern Kansas * Effective this Saturday afternoon and evening from 435 PM until 1000 PM CDT. * Primary threats include... Scattered damaging winds and isolated significant gusts to 80 mph possible Isolated large hail events to 1.5 inches in diameter possible SUMMARY...Isolated to scattered thunderstorms will continue to develop this afternoon into the evening. The stronger thunderstorms will mainly be capable of severe gusts (60-80 mph). Isolated large hail may also accompany the more intense thunderstorm cores as this activity moves east into a more unstable airmass over eastern parts of Kansas towards the early evening. The severe thunderstorm watch area is approximately along and 55 statute miles east and west of a line from 45 miles northeast of Manhattan KS to 40 miles south of Wichita KS. For a complete depiction of the watch see the associated watch outline update (WOUS64 KWNS WOU9). PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... MD 1278 CONCERNING SEVERE POTENTIAL...WATCH LIKELY FOR NORTHWEST MO INTO WESTERN/CENTRAL IA
Mesoscale Discussion 1278 NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK 0658 PM CDT Sat Jun 15 2024 Areas affected...Northwest MO into western/central IA Concerning...Severe potential...Watch likely Valid 152358Z - 160130Z Probability of Watch Issuance...80 percent SUMMARY...A threat for damaging wind, isolated hail, and possibly a tornado or two will spread eastward this evening. Watch issuance is likely. DISCUSSION...A storm cluster is gradually increasing in size across northeast KS into southeast NE, as the northern portion of a smaller cluster that developed earlier over central KS begins to merge with ongoing storms across southeast NE. Moderate downstream buoyancy and marginally sufficient deep-layer shear will continue to support organized convection through the evening, and the ongoing storm cluster is expected to move into parts of northwest MO and southwest/central IA with time. With a linear mode already established, damaging winds may be the most likely hazard as storms progress east-northeastward this evening. However, rather strong low-level shear/SRH (as noted on regional VWPs) will also support potential for a tornado or two. Downstream watch issuance is likely between 7-8 PM CDT if trends continue to support a severe threat this evening into northwest MO and southwest/central IA. ..Dean/Smith.. 06/15/2024 ...Please see www.spc.noaa.gov for graphic product...
