As of the afternoon of June 6, 2022, ignitions are complete on the 2022 Ash Mountain Prescribed Burn in Sequoia National Park. In all, approximately 15 acres between the Sequoia National Park entrance station and the Foothills Visitor Center, one mile inside the park were treated. Additional acres will be treated manually through the grazing of the parks’ stock animals or through weed eating. “Completing this annual prescribed burn by removing this highly flammable and invasive grass now ensures our parks’ historic assets and infrastructure are protected from an unwanted wildfire during the peak of the fire year this summer,” said Battalion Chief Cristian Lopez, Ash Mountain Burn Boss.  he  Foster Fire was reported on May 29, 2022, at 12:53 PM in the Peloncillo Mountains, Douglas Ranger District, Coronado National Forest. The fire is about 22 miles south of Rodeo, New Mexico.   Late in the evening on May 29th a Type 3 Incident Command Team lead by Incident Commander Chad Rice assumed command of the fire.      The Foster Fire official acreage is at 7,598 with containment remaining at 82%. Resources have continued to be released and all have been reassigned to different incidents. Today  the incident will be transferred to a local Douglas Ranger District Type 4 Team and the remaining off district resources will be reassigned.  The Plumtaw fire was first reported at around 1pm on May 17th roughly 7 miles north of the town of Pagosa Springs, Colorado. The fire was mapped at 727 acres on Thursday afternoon, which shows a reduction in acreage based on more accurate mapping. Fire personnel have focused efforts on the northeast corner near Fourmile Road (NFSR 634), protecting the Fourmile Creek watershed and Lost Valley Subdivision and keeping the fire north of Plumtaw Road (NFSR 634). The fire is burning in Ponderosa pine, Gambel oak, and mixed conifer.Stage 1 fire restrictions are in effect on the San Juan National Forest and other area lands. A wildfire ignited shortly after 2 p.m. on May 30, 2022 on the Angeles National Forest. The fire is located southeast of Bouquet Canyon Road, north of Santa Clarita.The fire is moving upslope in medium to heavy vegetation. The smoke column can be seen from the communities of Agua Dulce and the Rowher Flat OHV area.  The Angeles National Forest has initiated a second alarm response and Los Angeles County Fire Department is responding with multiple resources as well. Air tankers and helicopters are over the fire to support ground crews.At this time, no structures are threatened, but there are road closures on Bouquet Canyon Road and Rowher Flat OHV area. An overturned vehicle was located below the fire, a full investigation is in progress to confirm it as an official cause. As of 6:30 p.m., the Bouquet Wildfire was holding in size. At approximately 6:36 p.m., Angeles National Forest Dispatch received a call about possible smoke in the forest. Staff located a 50-foot x 50-foot spot on fire along the edge of the Angeles Crest Highway (State Hwy. 2), near Inspiration Point. Resources arrived on the scene and quickly cut a fire line around the burning area. A helicopter has dropped water on the fire multiple times. Excellent progress is being made to put the fire out quickly. Cooperators include: Los Angeles County Fire Department and San Bernardino County Fire Department.As of 9 p.m. on May 30, the Blue Fire was 100% contained with a fire line dug by hand by firefighters around it. Firefighters through the night into the morning in heavy fuels to extinguish or remove burning materials and to ensure that burning materials won't roll away from the burned area.As of 12 noon on May 31, the Blue Fire was placed in patrol status.  At approximately 6:45 pm, May 28, 2022,  a wildfire had started in Deaf Smith county just 9 miles east of Glenrio south of I-40. The Texas A&M Forest Service was requested for assistance and is working in unified command with Vega Volunteer Fire Dept. SSW winds are pushing the fire Northeast. Multiple fire departments were on scene initially including Adrian Volunteer Fire Dept. Vega Volunteer Fire Dept. Bootleg Volunteer Fire Dept. Hereford Volunteer Fire Dept. Dawn Volunteer Fire Dept. and county motor graders from Oldham and Deaf Smith counties. The Simms Fire was reported at approximately 3:45 p.m. on May 19, 2022. Fire started near USFS managed lands and private land. Fire was wind driven and burned to the northeast on to BLM managed lands and is approximately 15 miles southwest of Montrose, Colorado. Fire is burning in Ouray County. USFS is managing the fire as a full-suppression fire. Strong winds in the afternoon created active fire behavior with running, multiple tree torching and spotting in pinyon/juniper, Gambel oak brush and grasslands. At approximately 5 07 pm on May 12th, a wildfire started in San Saba County near the border of San Saba and McCulloch County. approximately 23 miles SW of the town of San Saba. Local fire departments were the first resources on scene and called for assistance from the Texas A&M Forest Service (TAMFS). TAMFS and the Local IC are working in unified command, The fire has been resistant to control and holding heat. The area has experienced above normal temperatures, low relative humidity and drying winds.  On May 17th at approximately 8:30 pm a wind shift occurred and blew the fire across a two track road moving the fire to  the NW toward the river,  Torching and crowning was observed in the junipers and fire is making runs in the grass. The fire potential for additional growth is moderate to high. Mechanized equipment is constructing containment lines areas they can access due to hazards. The Dry Branch Fire started on May 18 at approximately 3:30pm. Local fire departments requested assistance from Texas A&M Forest Service after 4pm.  At approximately 6:53 pm, a wildfire started at the Schleicher/Sutton County line located near the original Pope Fire (fire that started several days ago) on the Pope Ranch. Local fire departments were the first resources on scene and called for assistance from the Texas A&M Forest Service (TAMFS). TAMFS and the Local IC are working in unified command, Fire crews are currently constructing containment line around the fire with heavy equipment with the support of engines. Aircraft was utilized on the fire. Update May 18th 11:00- mechanized equipment is continuing to build and improve containment lines, engine are mopping up, patrolling line and working areas of concern. The Texas A&M Forest Service received a new request in Llano County on Highway 71 in between County Road 308 and 309 at approximately 2:00pm on May 19th. TAMFS crews arrived on scene shortly after and found 2 fires, one that had been stopped by local resources, and one uncontained fire actively spreading. TAMFS is in unified command with local resources to reach full containment. Aviation resources are being used in tandem with TAMFS bulldozers and county motor graders to build containment lines. Engines are being used to mop up hotspots, patrol the fire perimeter, and provide structure protection.  The High Park Fire was reported at 4:16 p.m. May 12, 2022 and is burning in pinyon/juniper, ponderosa pine, and grassland on private and BLM lands approximately 5.5 miles west of Cripple Creek in Teller County, Colorado. It is approximately 25 miles north of the Canon City wild horse holding facility. The Sandstone Mountain Fire began on the afternoon of May 17th. Multiple fires were caused in the area by a roadside start along State Highway 71, southeast of Llano, TX, including the Slab Road Fire. Local resources transitioned to unified command with Texas A&M Forest Service on the morning of May 18th. One structure was immediately threatened and saved by local resources. TAMFS heavy equipment and county motor graders are on scene building and improving containment line. Aviation resources were requested for reconicance on the Sandstone Mountain and Slab Road fires. Elevated to near critical fire weather is forecasted in the area through Friday.

Slab Road Fire (Wildfire)

The Slab Fire started on May 17th, 2022. Multiple fires started near the intersection of State Highway 71 at FM 2233 due to a roadside start along the highway. TAMFS is in unified command with local resources who are managing the Sandstone Mountain Fire estimated at 100 acres, with a local incident commander. Air resources were immediately requested but all aviation resources were committed to active fires in the state. One air-attack platform was able to fly the fire en route from working another fire to give ground resources an update at 8:00pm.Upon arrival the TAMFS Lost Pines Task Force found the Slab Fire to be approximately 50 acres with no containment, and minimal fire activity. TAMFS heavy equipment will work to build containment perimeter along the fire, and work with local engines to hold containment lines.
