On April 7, 2022, the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) declared the Overflow Prescribed Fire to be a wildfire when an unexpected fire whirl carried fire across the control lines. The fire is located southeast of Roswell, along the Pecos River corridor, in Chaves County.Prescribed fire ignitions began at 11:35 a.m., within pre-determined parameters, called a prescription. The fire whirl, a dust-devil-like phenomenon, changed the fire intensity along control lines and spread the fire across the boundary. A fire whirl is a vortex-induced by extreme heat in the fire environment and is often composed of flame, debris, and ash and can travel distances similar to tornadoes. Fuels in the area are dry grasses and salt cedar.  On Monday, April 11th, Texas A&M Forest Service was requested to assist with a wildfire in a pine plantation located approximately three miles northwest of Crockett, TX between Highway 287 and 229. Crews arrived on scene at approximately 9:00 am and found the fire to be approximately 200 acres with low fire behavior, and not threatening any homes or structures. The fire is believed to have been burning for at least two days prior to the request call, and the cause of ignition is currently under

 Texas A&M Forest Service responded to a request for assistance on the Training Area 23 wildfire in Bexar County.  At approximately 6:00 pm, April 7, 2022, a wildfire had started in Wheeler County just north of Kelton by the crossroad of Hwy 152 and FM592. The Texas A&M Forest Service (TAMFS) had gotten a request for assistance by Wheeler County EMC and worked in unified command with Wheeler Volunteer Fire Department. On initial attack, heavy equipment was engaged on the left flank north of Hwy 152 and burnout operations were being taken place. Higher winds from the north had pushed the fire south towards the Oklahoma border, multiple fire departments were on scene. Forward progression had been stopped on the first night and crews will continue to monitor and patrol the fire. The fire has been mapped and is at 8,152

COMMERCE CITY — Weather permitting, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) will be conducting prescribed burning activities on the Rocky Mountain Arsenal National Wildlife Refuge beginning Tuesday, March 15th. The FWS plans to burn up to 2,686 acres over 4 weeks. The burns will be conducted between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Smoke will be visible for several miles from the perimeter of the Refuge and people in the area may smell smoke.  The purpose of the burns is to reinvigorate the growth of native prairie vegetation, reduce accumulated litter, manage efforts for weed control and improve habitat to sustain wildlife. Prescribed burns are also an important tool land managers use to reduce the risk of wildfire in the Wildland Urban Interface.Interagency fire crews from the FWS, local fire departments and other federal agencies will be participating in the prescribed burns. On April 6th and 7th, Big Bend National Park staff plan to initiate a 33-acre prescribed burn along the Rio Grande. Fire managers will be using prescribed fire as a natural resource habitat treatment to control exotic giant cane. The project area is located along the River Corridor from Daniel’s Ranch to the Rio Grande Village Nature Trail. The Borrega fire started on March 30th and Texas A&M Forest Service received a request for assistance from Kleberg County at approximately 4:30 pm. The request for assistance came from Kleberg County for Texas A&M Forest Service resource support with the fire located 10 miles south of Kingsville and east of Premont. Unified command was established to assist with containment and suppression efforts.Voluntary evacuations were put in place in Kleberg County for the Ricardo and Riviera communities, as well as the King Ranch Gas Plant. The evacuations have been lifted as of April 3rd. Large Air Tankers assisted firefighters that conducted ground operations  to increase containment along the perimeter. Firing operations were successfully conducted on the east side of the fire to  slow the spread and increase containment. The Adrian Fire started on Friday, April 1st up on the mesa top southeast of Sweetwater, it has burned down into a canyon making it difficult for ground resources to put in mechanical fire line. Texas A&M Forest Service (TAMFS) had arrived on scene around 15:30 and has been working in unified command with local responders. Aviation resources were used extensively to slow forward progression and reduce heat on the flanks by dropping retardant via Large Air Tanker (LAT) and Very Large Air Tanker (VLAT). Additionally a type 1 helicopter was used to make water drops on hot spots along the flanks.The wildfire itself grew to an estimated 150 acres in size, however, in an attempted to strengthen and improve fire line as well as areas that equipment had difficulty getting to, several controlled burnout operations took place to remove unburnt fuel between the wildfire and the containment lines. On Tuesday, March 29, 2022, a fire had started south of the city of Pampa in Gray County. Hoover Volunteer Fire Department had responded along with county motor graders and had put containment line around the fire. Fire activity became minimum over night. Resources were released from the scene Wednesday morning. On Thursday, March 31, high winds reignited embers and carried them over containment lines causing a spot fire south of the initial heel. Texas A&M Forest Service was requested for assistance. Heavy equipment is being engaged to create fire breaks around structures and burnout operations are taking place.Winds were erratic and there was slight rain with thunderstorms in the area. The humidity assisted fire crews in being able to hold the current containment lines and widen out some old ones. The Das Goat Fire began on March 25, 2022 burning in grass and timber. Local fire departments requested assistance from Texas A&M Forest Service near 5:00 pm on March 25 for the Das Goat Fire. The fire is burning approximately 4 mules south, southeast of Mico, Texas. Initial reports of structures threatened expanded into voluntary, then mandatory evacuations for residents in the Medina Lake area near County Road 271 towards County Roads 2615, 2651 and 2652.  All evacuations have been lifted and access to the community of High Mountain Ranch is for residents only. The Red Mud fire started on Friday, April 1st, 2022 at approximately 2:40 pm in Crosby County just east of White River. The fire is burning in mostly grass but is being wind driven towards structures. Bull Dozers engaged on east flank to put in containment lines due to that work, forward progression has stopped. Three Single Engine Air Tankers (SEATs) worked the head of the fire to support ground resources. Structure protection was put in pplace to protect values at risk.  The Texas A&M Forest Service responded and was in unified command with the local fire department.  The fire is officially 100% contained as of April 2, 2022 and turned over to locals. Fire activity on the 20th was extreme due to high winds, but today is moderate due to precipitation that is occurring. Voluntary evacuations took place in the town of May, no reported structure loss at this
