MD 1103 CONCERNING SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH 361... FOR CENTRAL MO INTO FAR WESTERN IL
Mesoscale Discussion 1103 NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK 0806 PM CDT Tue Jun 03 2025 Areas affected...Central MO into far western IL Concerning...Severe Thunderstorm Watch 361... Valid 040106Z - 040230Z The severe weather threat for Severe Thunderstorm Watch 361 continues. SUMMARY...At least an isolated severe threat may persist through late evening. DISCUSSION...Some increase in convective intensity has recently been noted across southwest MO, where a line segment has developed in the vicinity of an outflow boundary left behind by the earlier QLCS. The environment (as sampled by the 00Z SGF sounding) is characterized by rich low-level moisture, weak midlevel lapse rates, and moderate buoyancy. Deep-layer shear is relatively modest, but flow in the lowest 3 km is rather strong, and some increase in damaging-wind potential is possible if a cold pool can become established. 0-1 km SRH of greater than 100 m2/s2 could also support localized tornado potential, especially near the remnant outflow boundary. If this developing line segment becomes more organized and continues eastward, then local expansion of WW 361 may be needed. ..Dean/Hart.. 06/04/2025 ...Please see www.spc.noaa.gov for graphic product... MD 1102 CONCERNING SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH 362... FOR PARTS OF NORTHWEST/NORTH TEXAS
Mesoscale Discussion 1102 NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK 0732 PM CDT Tue Jun 03 2025 Areas affected...Parts of Northwest/North Texas Concerning...Severe Thunderstorm Watch 362... Valid 040032Z - 040230Z The severe weather threat for Severe Thunderstorm Watch 362 continues. SUMMARY...Severe winds, large hail, and perhaps a tornado or two will remain possible this evening. DISCUSSION...Severe activity is likely to increase over the next few hours as the cold front pushes farther southeast and interacts with an unstable airmass. The strongest activity in WW 362 is in Clay County and moving southeastward. The observed 00Z DFW sounding showed modest mid-level lapse rates but a long hodograph with sufficient low-level shear for some concern for low-level rotation. With the very moist airmass in place (upper 60s to low 70s F dewpoints), storms should be able to maintain some intensity into the evening. Severe winds and isolated large hail will be the main concerns. As noted, low-level shear from the DFW sounding and KFWS VAD do suggest some potential for a tornado or two. Current estimates indicate storms may reach the DFW metro around 10 PM CDT. With the cold front moving into the region, some acceleration is possible. Convective trends will need to be monitored for possible watch extension or an additional watch later this evening. ..Wendt.. 06/04/2025 ...Please see www.spc.noaa.gov for graphic product... MD 1101 CONCERNING SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH 361... FOR EXTREME EASTERN IA INTO NORTHERN IL AND EXTREME SOUTHERN WI
Mesoscale Discussion 1101 NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK 0724 PM CDT Tue Jun 03 2025 Areas affected...Extreme eastern IA into northern IL and extreme southern WI Concerning...Severe Thunderstorm Watch 361... Valid 040024Z - 040200Z The severe weather threat for Severe Thunderstorm Watch 361 continues. SUMMARY...Threat for severe/damaging wind and line-embedded tornadoes will spread northeastward this evening. DISCUSSION...A storm cluster with embedded circulations remains intense early this evening near/south of Davenport, IA. Deep-layer shear vectors remain favorably orthogonal with this line segment, with stronger cores aloft indicating the presence of embedded supercells within this cluster. Favorably moist and sufficiently unstable downstream conditions favor maintenance of this system into a larger portion of northwest IL. A wind gust of 81 mph was recorded earlier in Burlington, IA, and wind gusts of 60-80 mph remain possible with this intense storm cluster. Low-level flow/shear is strengthening ahead of the system (as noted on the KILX VWP), and line-embedded tornadoes will continue to be possible, given the presence of embedded supercell structures. The severe threat may eventually spread east of WW 361, and local expansion of the watch will continue to be possible with time this evening. ..Dean.. 06/04/2025 ...Please see www.spc.noaa.gov for graphic product... MD 1100 CONCERNING TORNADO WATCH 363... FOR SOUTH-CENTRAL INTO NORTHEAST OKLAHOMA
Mesoscale Discussion 1100 NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK 0644 PM CDT Tue Jun 03 2025 Areas affected...South-central into northeast Oklahoma Concerning...Tornado Watch 363... Valid 032344Z - 040115Z The severe weather threat for Tornado Watch 363 continues. SUMMARY...Tornadoes, particularly with discrete storms in south-central Oklahoma, and damaging winds will remain possible into the evening. DISCUSSION...A few discrete storms continue in south-central Oklahoma. These storms will pose the greatest risk for a tornado over the next 1-2 hours. Eventually, storm interactions and the approaching line from the west will lead to a less discrete mode with time. However, KINX VAD and the low-level jet expected to remain in eastern Oklahoma suggest some continued risk for tornadoes with line embedded supercells or QLCS circulations. Within the line itself, there are embedded bowing segments noted on regional radar. These elements will pose a risk for damaging winds. Convective trends will continue to be monitored for possible watch extensions storms progress eastward this evening. The very moist environment and anticipated low-level shear will remain favorable. ..Wendt.. 06/03/2025 ...Please see www.spc.noaa.gov for graphic product... ATTN...WFO...TSA...OUN... SPC 0100Z Day 1 Outlook
Day 1 Convective Outlook NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK 0748 PM CDT Tue Jun 03 2025 Valid 040100Z - 041200Z ...THERE IS A SLIGHT RISK OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS FROM THE SOUTHERN GREAT PLAINS TO THE MIDWEST... ...SUMMARY... Scattered severe thunderstorms remain possible from the southern Great Plains to the Midwest. ...01z Update... Low-amplitude short-wave trough is ejecting across eastern KS/OK into extreme northern TX. A considerable amount of convection has evolved ahead of this feature, just ahead of the synoptic front this is now surging southeast across southeast KS-central OK-TX south Plains. Complex storm modes are noted along the corridor of pre frontal convection, with a mix of a few supercells, clusters, and bowing line segments. Seasonally strong instability has yet to be overturned ahead of this activity with 2000-3000 J/kg SBCAPE extending as far northeast as the MO Ozarks. 00z sounding from SGF supports this with 2600 J/kg SBCAPE and 0-6km bulk shear around 30kt. Additionally, lapse rates are not that steep and CINH is negligible, so widespread convection should spread east and southeast ahead of this boundary through this evening. Buoyancy is quite a bit weaker across northern IL into southern WI, but an organized QLCS is propagating northeast into this region. DVN sounding exhibits around 40kt 0-6km shear, so this activity is expected to remain organized for the next several hours despite the poor lapse rates and modest instability. ..Darrow.. 06/04/2025 Read more
