MD 1000 CONCERNING SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH 321... FOR PARTS OF CENTRAL NC
Mesoscale Discussion 1000
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
0905 PM CDT Sun May 26 2024
Areas affected...Parts of central NC
Concerning...Severe Thunderstorm Watch 321...
Valid 270205Z - 270330Z
The severe weather threat for Severe Thunderstorm Watch 321
continues.
SUMMARY...The damaging-wind threat will continue in the short term,
before an anticipated weakening trend late tonight.
DISCUSSION...Some intensification of ongoing convection has recently
been noted across central NC, with an east-southeastward moving
storm cluster now overtaking a strong discrete cell that had
developed ahead of the line. Some damaging-wind threat may persist
in the short term ahead of this cluster, as it moves into a region
where rather strong heating/mixing occurred earlier today.
Only modest deep-layer shear and weak low-level flow were noted on
the 00Z GSO sounding, though some increase in low-level flow has
recently been noted on the KRAX VWP, and stronger midlevel flow to
the southwest may begin impinging upon the ongoing storm cluster.
Gradually increasing downstream MLCINH should eventually result in a
weakening trend later tonight, such as what has already occurred
across southern VA. However, at least an isolated damaging-wind
threat may persist to the eastern edge of WW 321.

MD 0999 CONCERNING SEVERE POTENTIAL...WATCH LIKELY FOR FAR SOUTHWEST OH...CENTRAL/EASTERN KY
Mesoscale Discussion 0999
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
0859 PM CDT Sun May 26 2024
Areas affected...Far Southwest OH...Central/Eastern KY
Concerning...Severe potential...Watch likely
Valid 270159Z - 270300Z
Probability of Watch Issuance...80 percent
SUMMARY...The threat for severe gust and QLCS circulations will
likely continue into far southwest Ohio and central/eastern
Kentucky, and a Tornado Watch will likely be needed across the
region to address this potential.
DISCUSSION...Well-organized convective line continues to move
eastward across southwest IN, southern IL, and far southwest KY at
around 50 to 55 kt. This storm motion takes the line to the edge of
Tornado Watch 324 at 0330Z to 0400Z. The airmass over the region is
only weakly buoyant right now, but increasing low to mid-level
moisture ahead of the line should promote the development of modest
buoyancy. This buoyancy will be aided by strong low-level shear.
Recent 00Z BNA sounding sampled strong low-level flow veering with
height, with 0-1 km storm-relative helicity over 330 m2/s2. Recent
JKL VAD sampled this increasing low-level flow as well, with 0-1
storm-relative helicity over 400 m2/s2.
Given the favorable kinematics and organized character to the
ongoing line, the expectation is that the threat for severe gusts
and QLCS tornado circulations will continue into the region. A
Tornado Watch will likely be needed across the region to address
this potential.

MD 0998 CONCERNING TORNADO WATCH 324... FOR PORTIONS OF WESTERN KY AND FAR SOUTHERN IN
Mesoscale Discussion 0998
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
0836 PM CDT Sun May 26 2024
Areas affected...portions of western KY and far southern IN
Concerning...Tornado Watch 324...
Valid 270136Z - 270300Z
The severe weather threat for Tornado Watch 324 continues.
SUMMARY...Isolated supercells are in a favorable environment for
strong to intense tornadoes.
DISCUSSION...As of 0130 UTC, regional radar analysis showed mature
supercells ongoing over Caldwell and Davies county KY. These storms
have exhibited strong low-level rotation and have a history of
producing tornadoes. The environment ahead of these storms remains
very favorable for strong to intense tornadoes with large buoyancy,
ESRH greater than 400 m2/s2 and STP values of 5. Strong to intense
tornado potential will remain high as these storms approach a
modified baroclinic boundary left over from previous convection.
Large to very large hail and damaging winds are also possible with
these intense storms.

MD 0997 CONCERNING TORNADO WATCH 320...323...324... FOR SOUTHERN IL...WESTERN KY...SOUTHEAST MO/MO BOOTHEEL...FAR WESTERN TN
Mesoscale Discussion 0997
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
0821 PM CDT Sun May 26 2024
Areas affected...Southern IL...Western KY...Southeast MO/MO
Bootheel...Far Western TN
Concerning...Tornado Watch 320...323...324...
Valid 270121Z - 270245Z
The severe weather threat for Tornado Watch 320, 323, 324 continues.
SUMMARY...Threat for significant-severe gusts is increasing within
the ongoing convective line from southeast Illinois and southern
Indiana into western Kentucky and far southeast Missouri/Missouri
Bootheel.
DISCUSSION...Well-organized convective line continues to push
quickly southeastward across southern IL and southeast MO/MO
Bootheel. Recent storm motion with this line was estimated around 50
kt, which would bring the line into central KY and southern IN
between 0230 and 0300Z. Several severe gusts have been noted within
the line, including recently at KSLO at 56 kt.
This northeast-to-southwest orientated line is about to intersect a
west-to-east line of supercells across far southern IL into far
southwest KY. This interaction is expected to result in
intensification of the line, with some potential for this area to to
surge eastward, becoming the apex of the bow. Significant-severe
gusts (i.e. 75-90 mph) are likely within this vicinity over the next
few hours. Northern portion of the bow remains well-organized, with
some interaction with the newly strengthening warm-air advection
cells across southern IN. Significant-severe gusts appear possible
here as well.
An embedded supercell persists at the southern end of the line, with
another supercell in its wake to the west over Carter County MO.
Both of these cells will continue to pose a risk for all severe
hazards for the next hour or two.

MD 0996 CONCERNING SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH 317...321...322... FOR CAROLINA PIEDMONT VICINITY
Mesoscale Discussion 0996
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
0727 PM CDT Sun May 26 2024
Areas affected...Carolina Piedmont vicinity
Concerning...Severe Thunderstorm Watch 317...321...322...
Valid 270027Z - 270200Z
The severe weather threat for Severe Thunderstorm Watch 317, 321,
322 continues.
SUMMARY...Some threat for damaging wind and hail will spread
east-southeast this evening. An isolated severe threat may
eventually spread east of the ongoing watches.
DISCUSSION...A couple of supercells are ongoing this evening across
parts of upstate SC, with golfball hail recently observed in the
Greenville-Spartanburg area. Some interaction between that supercell
and a left-moving cell to its west will be possible in the short
term, which could lead to a localized increase in damaging wind
potential. Discrete supercell activity is eventually expected to
weaken later this evening with the onset of nocturnal
cooling/stabilization, but some threat for hail and isolated
damaging wind will persist until the ongoing cells weaken.
Farther north, some recent intensification has been noted with a
storm cluster moving southeastward across western NC, to the
northwest of Charlotte. The KCLT VWP depicts relatively weak
low-level flow, but rather strong deep-layer flow/shear, which in
combination with moderate buoyancy will support continued storm
organization in the short term this evening. While MLCINH will
gradually increase with time, a threat for damaging wind and perhaps
some hail will continue to spread east-southeastward. Depending on
the longevity of ongoing convection, local watch extension or
downstream watch issuance may eventually need to be considered.

MD 0995 CONCERNING TORNADO WATCH 320... FOR SOUTHERN IL...SOUTHEAST MO
Mesoscale Discussion 0995
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
0701 PM CDT Sun May 26 2024
Areas affected...Southern IL...Southeast MO
Concerning...Tornado Watch 320...
Valid 270001Z - 270130Z
The severe weather threat for Tornado Watch 320 continues.
SUMMARY...Well-organized convective line continues to surge
southeastward from southern Illinois into southern Missouri. A
corridor of significant wind gusts (i.e. 75+ mph) appears probable
across south-central into southeast Illinois.
DISCUSSION...Ongoing convective line has shown an increase in
forward propagation over the last hour or so, particularly with the
portion of the line that moved through the LSX area. Velocity data
from KLSX continues to show strong outbound velocities within the
portion of the line moving through west-central IL. Significant
severe gusts (i.e. greater than 75 mph) are possible within this
portion of the line as it moves through more of southern IL.
Southern portion of the line has allow surged forward, though not
with quite the same speed as farther north. However, the
southernmost cell within the line now has a more outflow-dominant
signature, and cell interactions with the ongoing supercells across
south-central MO are probable. Strong gusts are expected to become
more prominent within this portion of the line once these
interactions are complete.
