MD 1254 CONCERNING SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH 410... FOR CENTRAL AND SOUTHERN KANSAS
Mesoscale Discussion 1254
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
0738 PM CDT Thu Jun 13 2024
Areas affected...Central and Southern Kansas
Concerning...Severe Thunderstorm Watch 410...
Valid 140038Z - 140245Z
The severe weather threat for Severe Thunderstorm Watch 410
continues.
SUMMARY...A broken line of thunderstorms will continue to move south
and east through the evening with attendant risk of damaging winds
and large hail.
DISCUSSION...Two broken lines to strong to severe storms continue
across central and southwestern Kansas, with periodic reports of
gusts up to up to 60-70 mph and hail 1-1.75 inches in diameter.
Outflow can be observed moving out ahead of the southern segment of
these storms near Dodge City northward into Great Bend. Severe
winds will continue to be possible (60-70 mph), given steep lapse
rates and ample instability and moisture ahead of this line.
The cluster to the northeast near Salina remains active and more
cellular, with several reports of hail over the last hour. This
cluster will continue to pose a risk of damaging wind and instances
of large hail up to 1-1.75 inches in diameter.

MD 1255 CONCERNING SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH 408...409... FOR PORTIONS OF THE MIDWEST
Mesoscale Discussion 1255
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
0748 PM CDT Thu Jun 13 2024
Areas affected...Portions of the Midwest
Concerning...Severe Thunderstorm Watch 408...409...
Valid 140048Z - 140215Z
The severe weather threat for Severe Thunderstorm Watch 408, 409
continues.
SUMMARY...Severe thunderstorm complex will propagate southeast this
evening. New Severe Thunderstorm Watch may be warranted downstream.
DISCUSSION...Numerous robust thunderstorm clusters are gradually
merging into a larger complex early this evening. Over the last hour
or so, an expanding precip shield is beginning to evolve and an MCS
now appears imminent as the convection propagates southeast.
Sustained southwesterly 1km inflow appears to be aiding new updrafts
along the western flank of the MCS over northern MO. The majority of
large hail reports have been noted across this region, and latest
MESH data suggests this continues. Given the upscale growth and the
available reservoir of instability immediately downstream over
east-central MO into central IL, there is increasing confidence the
leading edge of this activity will spread beyond ww0409 shortly. New
ww may be warranted soon.
