The Boulder Lake Fire was reported on Sept. 3, 2022, and is burning primarily in the Rattlesnake Wilderness, east of Boulder Lake on the Missoula Ranger District. A Point-Zone Protection strategy is being utilized in the Wilderness. This strategy protects highly valued resources (such as buildings, infrastructure, or recreational assets) from the fire, utilizing various natural and geographic features (past wildfires, trails, rock, and cliff bands) while protecting other values consistent with the Rattlesnake Wilderness. Additionally, fire managers will be utilizing a confine and contain suppression strategy to engage the eastern and southeastern flanks of the fire outside of the Wilderness. Crews continue to focus on suppressions repair work along dozer and hand lines, in an effort to reduce additional impacts on the forest and local watersheds. Water bars have been created and vegetation spread over lines to prevent additional erosion. The Margaret Fire was detected by Baptiste Lookout on August 22, 2022 (correction from the original reporting stating the fire was detected by aircraft). The wildfire is burning on the ridge north of Margaret Lake, it is on the upper third of the slope on steep rocky terrain. As of September 23, rain totals over the fire amounted to 0.98 inches and fire activity is primarily smoldering. The minimal fire activity is along the Forest Creek Road (FS Road 895E). On the Forest Creek side the fire continues to creep to the south and east towards old cutting units; these units appear to be acting as a barrier to fire spread. On the north side, above Graves Bay, the fire has backed to within 15 feet of the West Side Reservoir Road (FS 895). On Thursday, September 1, 2022, ground and air resources responded to a lightning caused wildfire 21 miles west of Kalispell, Montana, near the community of Marion burning in heavy timber. The fire is being managed under a full suppression strategy, and fire managers have looked for opportunities to go direct where possible. The Type 2 Northern Rockies Incident Management Team 3 has managed the fire since September 5. Deep Creek Fire (Wildfire)

The Deep Creek Fire in the northwest corner of the Little Belt Mountains was reported in the afternoon of August 31, 2022.  On September 7, a Type 4 team led by Incident Commander Michael Williams and Jesse Riddle (t) took command of the fire.  Previously, on September 2, a Type 3 team led by Incident Commander Alex Brooks and Kenny Spint had been in command of the fire. The fire is estimated to be 37 acres and is 70% contained.  Fire personnel were able to use aerial resources on the fire to help reduce fire growth.  There has not been smoke seen on the fire for a few days now, so updates will take place to this page if a significant change

9/15/2022 Will be the last update for the Middle Fire.Great Basin Incident Management Team 4 assumed command of the Middle Fire at 6:00 a.m. on September 9/11/22. Team 4 is also managing the Tenmile Fire.The Middle Fire was ignited by the thunderstorms that passed over the area on September 7th.  It is burning in the West Fork of Rapid River – Jackley Mountain Area on the New Meadows Ranger District, near the Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forest. The fire is 54 acres and burning in light ground-based fuels with low fire intensity.    The Middle Fire received wetting rain over the fire area on Tuesday, September 13, which reduced fire activity to minimal creeping and smoldering. Hotshot crews engaged in direct suppression efforts on the fire and were able to gain 85% containment. Crews will continue working to achieve 100% containment, anticipated over the next couple of days. 

Washakie Park (Wildfire)

The Washakie Park Fire is located west of Ft. Washakie, WY in the Washakie Park area of the Wind River Indian Reservation.   The fire was first reported at approximately 1430 on September 6, 2022 with an initial size up of 300 acres.  The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.  The local Bureau of Indian Affairs, Fremont County resources and Federal resources responded to the initial attack and managed the fire until the Wyoming Type 3 Incident Management Team assumed command of the fire on Friday September 9th at 0600.     The fire is being managed under a full suppression strategy, ensuring all actions reflect a commitment to incident personnel safety and public safety.The Shoshone and Arapaho Fish and Game have issued a road closure for the Washakie Park Road and Sage Creek Road to St. Lawrence located within the Wind River Indian
