MD 0214 CONCERNING TORNADO WATCH 47...48... FOR NORTHERN ALABAMA INTO EASTERN TENNESSEE
Mesoscale Discussion 0214
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
0621 PM CDT Sat Mar 15 2025
Areas affected...Northern Alabama into eastern Tennessee
Concerning...Tornado Watch 47...48...
Valid 152321Z - 160115Z
The severe weather threat for Tornado Watch 47, 48 continues.
SUMMARY...The threat for tornadoes and severe gusts continues across
northern Alabama into eastern Tennessee for the next few hours.
DISCUSSION...Over the past 1-2 hours, convection across
north-central AL has struggled to maintain intensity as it migrates
into a deeply saturated, rain cooled environment. Recent surface
observations depict a rather pronounced surface warm front extending
across northern AL that delineates the northern extent of
appreciable surface-based buoyancy. Despite the thermodynamic
challenges, the low to mid-level theta-e axis remains in place
across north-central AL. Strong isentropic ascent within this regime
continues to support very strongly veered hodographs within the
lowest few kilometers, exemplified by KBMX and KHTX VWP observations
featuring 0-1 km SRH on the order of 400-500 m2/s2. Additionally,
GOES IR imagery and lightning data have shown occasional updraft
pulses within this warm advection regime and embedded supercell
structures within a broken line of storms across eastern Middle TN
which hint that buoyancy remains adequate for at least transient
deep convection. Recent WoFS guidance appears to support this idea
with some signal for low-level helicity tracks and severe gust
potential focused across northeast AL into eastern/southeastern TN
between 23-02 UTC.

MD 0213 CONCERNING TORNADO WATCH 46... FOR SOUTHERN MISSISSIPPI INTO CENTRAL AND SOUTHERN ALABAMA
Mesoscale Discussion 0213
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
0618 PM CDT Sat Mar 15 2025
Areas affected...southern Mississippi into central and southern
Alabama
Concerning...Tornado Watch 46...
Valid 152318Z - 160215Z
The severe weather threat for Tornado Watch 46 continues.
SUMMARY...The environment remains quite favorable for strong
tornadoes, but will depend on storm mode going into the evening and
early morning hours.
DISCUSSION...Supercells moving out of eastern MS have transitioned
into more of a small MCS this evening, from west-central AL into
parts of eastern MS. Farther south, more discrete cell mode was
noted across far southern MS to the LA border.
While storm mode is currently a bit disorganized, shear, moisture
and instability all remain favorable for conditionally strong
tornadoes at any point this evening and through early morning. In
addition, dewpoints and thus instability will also increase across
the remainder of eastern AL and toward GA late tonight as the
low-level jet persists. It is possible that reorganization may take
place later this evening as we transition out of the daytime/diurnal
regime. Any robust, discrete cells will have a high conditional risk
of being tornadic supercells. Any linear structures may still
produce tornadoes and swaths of damaging wind as well as effective
SRH remains at or above 500 m2/s2.

MD 0212 CONCERNING TORNADO WATCH 47... FOR PORTIONS OF MIDDLE INTO EASTERN TENNESSEE
Mesoscale Discussion 0212
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
0356 PM CDT Sat Mar 15 2025
Areas affected...portions of middle into eastern Tennessee
Concerning...Tornado Watch 47...
Valid 152056Z - 152230Z
The severe weather threat for Tornado Watch 47 continues.
SUMMARY...The severe threat may continue downstream of Tornado Watch
47 into eastern TN. An additional WW issuance may be needed
downstream pending favorable convective trends.
DISCUSSION...A QLCS continues to progress across Middle TN, and is
approaching the eastern bounds of Tornado Watch 47. Downstream,
surface observations show surface temperatures exceeding 70 F amid
upper 40s to low 50s dewpoints. Given 20+ F surface
temperature/dewpoint spreads, a deeper, potentially drier boundary
layer may be in place, which may augment damaging gust potential.
Given large, clockwise curved hodographs (per regional VADs), QLCS
tornado potential may also exist. As such, a downstream WW issuance
may be needed if QLCS organization and intensity persists or
especially increases.

MD 0210 CONCERNING TORNADO WATCH 45...46... FOR SOUTHEAST MISSISSIPPI INTO CENTRAL ALABAMA
Mesoscale Discussion 0210
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
0329 PM CDT Sat Mar 15 2025
Areas affected...southeast Mississippi into central Alabama
Concerning...Tornado Watch 45...46...
Valid 152029Z - 152230Z
The severe weather threat for Tornado Watch 45, 46 continues.
SUMMARY...Multiple supercells capable of intense to potentially
violent tornadoes to persist into the evening.
DISCUSSION...A line of supercells continues from east-central
Alabama to south-central Mississippi. Most of these supercells have
a history of tornadoes including a few intense to potentially
violent tornadoes. The environment ahead of these supercells remains
very favorable for tornadoes with 1500 to 2000 J/kg MLCAPE per SPC
mesoanalysis and 0-1km SRH in excess of 300 m2/s2 per GWX VWP. This
yields a STP value around 5 which is forecast to shift east with
these storms through the evening. Convective trends have shown rapid
strong to intense tornado development in supercells with unimpeded
inflow and circulation disruption when surrounding
showers/thunderstorms impede this inflow. Expect this pattern to
continue into the early evening with the greatest concern being
supercells with clear inflow of at least mid 60s dewpoints.
The threat for intense to potentially violent tornadoes will persist
from these supercells as long as they can remain ahead of the
developing line of storms across central Mississippi. Based on
current storm motions, they should remain ahead of this line of
storms into the early evening.

MD 0211 CONCERNING TORNADO WATCH 45...46... FOR GULF COASTAL AREAS OF MISSISSIPPI...ALABAMA...AND THE WESTERN FLORIDA PANHANDLE
Mesoscale Discussion 0211
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
0340 PM CDT Sat Mar 15 2025
Areas affected...Gulf coastal areas of Mississippi...Alabama...and
the western Florida Panhandle
Concerning...Tornado Watch 45...46...
Valid 152040Z - 152215Z
The severe weather threat for Tornado Watch 45, 46 continues.
SUMMARY...The severe threat, including a few tornadoes, may develop
along portions of the Gulf Coast if storms can continue developing
along the shoreline. Tornado Watch expansions may be needed over the
next few hours.
DISCUSSION...Multiple supercells have developed along the LA/MS
border and continue to track northeast with a tornado threat.
However, storms continue to develop southward near Lake
Pontchartrain, and as deep-layer ascent continues to increase over
the Gulf Coast region, additional storms may develop along the
shoreline. The MOB VAD has shown a slight but steady increase in
hodograph size and curvature through the afternoon, with 0-3 km SRH
approaching 600 m2/s2. Given rich Gulf moisture and associated
buoyancy, the potential exists for tornadoes and damaging gusts if a
sustained supercell structure can materialize. Should this scenario
become apparent, ongoing Tornado Watches 45-46 may need to be
expanded to the Gulf Coast.
