MD 1486 CONCERNING SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH 487... FOR PORTIONS OF NORTHWESTERN OKLAHOMA
Mesoscale Discussion 1486 NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK 0843 PM CDT Sat Jun 29 2024 Areas affected...portions of northwestern Oklahoma Concerning...Severe Thunderstorm Watch 487... Valid 300143Z - 300245Z The severe weather threat for Severe Thunderstorm Watch 487 continues. SUMMARY...The severe threat continues across Severe Thunderstorm Watch 487. Severe gusts and perhaps a couple instances of hail may accompany the stronger storms that remain. The severe threat should gradually wane through the evening. DISCUSSION...Multicell and pulse single cells continue to percolate in intensity near the stationary surface front across northwestern OK. Occasional instances of severe hail and wind were noted with these storms earlier. Given the lack of strong steering flow, ongoing and earlier storms have likely overturned tropospheric lapse rates along much of the front, suggesting that the severe threat has likely peaked in coverage and intensity across northwestern OK. Nonetheless, a few intense updrafts have recently developed over Dewey County, so a few areas of pristine airmass may remain to support strong thunderstorms producing an instance or two of severe gusts/hail. ..Squitieri.. 06/30/2024 ...Please see www.spc.noaa.gov for graphic product... MD 1485 CONCERNING SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH 486... FOR PORTIONS OF NORTHEAST OKLAHOMA
Mesoscale Discussion 1485 NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK 0804 PM CDT Sat Jun 29 2024 Areas affected...portions of northeast Oklahoma Concerning...Severe Thunderstorm Watch 486... Valid 300104Z - 300200Z The severe weather threat for Severe Thunderstorm Watch 486 continues. SUMMARY...Severe gusts (60-75 mph) may accompany a small bowing segment as it continues to progress southeastward across northeast parts of OK. DISCUSSION...A well defined but small bowing segment, with a history of severe wind gusts, continues to propagate southward across portions of northeast OK amid a strongly unstable environment, characterized by 2000-3000 J/kg MLCAPE. KINX radar data shows 50+ kt inbound velocities at 400-500 m AGL, with cross-sectional analyses also indicating the presence of a rear-inflow jet. Given the very organized bow-echo structure with this thunderstorm cluster, additional severe gusts remains possible, and a 75+ mph gust cannot be completely ruled out. ..Squitieri.. 06/30/2024 ...Please see www.spc.noaa.gov for graphic product... MD 1484 CONCERNING SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH 487... FOR PORTIONS OF THE TEXAS PANHANDLE INTO NORTHWESTERN OKLAHOMA
Mesoscale Discussion 1484 NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK 0700 PM CDT Sat Jun 29 2024 Areas affected...portions of the Texas Panhandle into northwestern Oklahoma Concerning...Severe Thunderstorm Watch 487... Valid 300000Z - 300130Z The severe weather threat for Severe Thunderstorm Watch 487 continues. SUMMARY...The severe threat continues across Severe Thunderstorm Watch 487. Severe gusts are the main threat, though an instance of large hail cannot be ruled out. DISCUSSION...Several pulse-single cells, multicells, and transient supercells have formed along the slowly southward-sagging surface cold front over the past couple of hours. At least one measured severe gust has been reported in northern OK, with regional and MRMS mosaic radar data showing severe hail and wind potential with the storms over the TX Panhandle. The ambient atmosphere can still be characterized by strong to locally extreme instability, so any of the stronger storms progressing within a pristine airmass may still produce severe wind and hail over the next few hours. ..Squitieri.. 06/30/2024 ...Please see www.spc.noaa.gov for graphic product... SPC 0100Z Day 1 Outlook
Day 1 Convective Outlook NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK 0800 PM CDT Sat Jun 29 2024 Valid 300100Z - 301200Z ...THERE IS A SLIGHT RISK OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS THROUGH LATE EVENING FROM NORTHERN OK TO SOUTHERN MO...AND FROM WV INTO SOUTHEAST PA... ...SUMMARY... Isolated damaging gusts and large hail will be possible for a few more hours into early tonight from northern Oklahoma into southern Missouri, and across parts of the central Appalachians. ...01z... Main changes in this update will be to extend the SLGT risk westward across northern OK to reflect wind-damage potential with storms along a surface wind shift through late evening, and to remove most of the SLGT in the WV/OH/PA/NY area where diurnal stabilization and prior storms should limit the threat overnight. The threat appears lower overnight across the southern High Plains tonight as the low levels slowly stabilize in an upslope regime. Storm clusters are still expected, though the hail/wind threat should remain marginal. ..Thompson.. 06/30/2024 Read more
