A few supercells will be possible over the next 3 hours. DISCUSSION...Enhanced surface convergence along a cold front near the KY/IN border has led to the development of a line of thunderstorms. An instability axis is noted along and ahead of this zone, where MLCAPE is around 2000 J/kg. Localized deep layer shear is sufficient for some storm organization, and a few embedded supercells will be possible through at least sunset. Valid 222308Z - 230115Z The severe weather threat for Tornado Watch 286 continues. SUMMARY...A threat for tornadoes, wind damage and isolated large hail will continue for a few more hours across parts of central and east Texas. As the severe threat moves toward the eastern edge of WW 286, a local extension or new watch may be needed. DISCUSSION...The latest hi-resolution radar imagery from Fort Worth shows a small cluster of intense storms in the northern Texas Hill Country, in Lampasas, Coryell, and McLennan counties. Multiple supercells are ongoing, and one of the storms has had a persistent circulation. This cluster of storms will continue to move eastward into a corridor of extreme instability, where MLCAPE is estimated by the RAP in the 4500 to 5500 J/kg range. The nearest WSR-88D VWP, located at Granger, TX has 0-6 km shear of 45 to 50 knots, and 0-3 km storm-relative helicity fluctuating in the 200 to 300 m2/s2 range over the last half hour. This environment should be favorable for supercells with a tornado threat. A strong tornado will be possible. Supercells will also be capable of isolated large hail. Hailstones of greater than 2 inches in diameter may accompany the most intense updrafts. SUMMARY...A severe threat is likely to continue for a few more hours from northeast Texas eastward into southern Arkansas and far northern Louisiana. Wind damage, hail and perhaps a tornado or two will be possible. A new watch is being issued for parts of the Ark-La-Tex. DISCUSSION...The latest radar imagery from Shreveport shows scattered strong to severe storms from northeast Texas into southwestern Arkansas, with a couple supercells ongoing. The storms are located near an axis of strong to extreme instability, where the RAP is estimated MLCAPE in the 4500 to 5500 J/kg range. In addition, the Little Rock and Shreveport WSR-88D VWPs have 0-6 km shear in the 50 to 60 knot range. Forecast soundings in the Ark-La-Tex have 700-500 mb lapse rates in the 8 to 8.5 C/km range. A couple tornadoes possible Scattered large hail and isolated very large hail events to 4 inches in diameter likely Scattered damaging winds likely with isolated significant gusts to 80 mph possible SUMMARY...Thunderstorms will rapidly intensify this afternoon in a very moist and unstable air mass. Very large hail and damaging winds are the main threat, although a few tornadoes are also expected. The tornado watch area is approximately along and 65 statute miles north and south of a line from 50 miles west southwest of San Angelo TX to 70 miles northeast of Corsicana TX.
