Scattered damaging wind gusts to 65 mph possible SUMMARY...A band of strong to severe thunderstorms is forecast to move east into and across much of the Watch area this evening. A risk for strong to severe gusts (50-65 mph) capable of wind damage will potentially accompany the stronger thunderstorms. An isolated threat for large hail (1 to 1.5 inches in diameter) may exist with any discrete and intense thunderstorms. Valid 270051Z - 270245Z The severe weather threat for Severe Thunderstorm Watch 468 continues. SUMMARY...Storms will remain capable of severe winds and marginally severe hail into the evening. The environment becomes less favorable to the east and a weakening trend is expected as storms move into southwest Montana. DISCUSSION...Scattered convection continues across parts of southern Idaho and will eventually progress into southwest Montana. With the continued approach of the upper-level trough this evening, some additional development remains possible in western Idaho. The most intense storms will continue to pose a risk for severe winds as well as marginally severe hail. The hail threat should generally be modulated by somewhat limited buoyancy. At least some risk should eventually spread into Rhode Island parts of Massachusetts, possibly requiring new WW consideration in the next hour or so. DISCUSSION...Latest radar loop shows a band of strong to severe storms moving east-northeastward into/across southeastern New York including the New York City area at this time. Locally strong/damaging wind gusts remain the primary risk with these storms, which should continue over the next few hours -- moving across Connecticut and Long Island. SUMMARY...Local severe risk continues across portions of southwestern Pennsylvania and a small portion of adjacent West Virginia and Maryland. New/downstream WW not anticipated. DISCUSSION...Latest radar loop shows a band of storms moving across the mountains of southwestern Pennsylvania, and southwestward into northern West Virginia. The strongest storms are ongoing near an MCV crossing the Indiana County vicinity, where transient rotation and possibly a weak/brief tornado touchdown may have occurred in the past hour. Local risk for an additional/brief tornado and/or strong wind gusts will continue across northeastern portions of WW 467.
