<p>FEMA may be able to help with expenses to buy or rent certain items to help make your home safe after a disaster. Your state, territory, or tribe chooses the list of eligible items.</p>

<p>The list usually includes items like a dehumidifier or a chainsaw to clear a downed tree blocking access to your home.</p>

<p><b>Other examples:</b> <i>Smoke detectors, carbon monoxide detectors, and generators. Generators usually only qualify if you need to power a medically required device, like a refrigerator for insulin.</i></p>
