Program Description

Did a federally declared disaster affect you? If so, you may get extra time to file and pay your current tax returns and payments.

Visit the IRS news from around the nation page. Click on your state to see a list of returns and payments that qualify under this program.

General Program Requirements

If you meet both of the conditions below, you don’t need to contact the IRS to get the extra time. It is automatic.

  • You must live in a county the IRS identified for disaster tax relief.
  • Your address on file must be up to date.

Application Process

If any of the conditions below apply to you, please call IRS Special Services at 1-866-562-5227.

You live in a federally declared disaster area and –

  • Your address is not up to date.
  • You have other tax-related hardships.
  • You are not able to make your installment payments on back-due taxes.
