If you're the dependent parent of an insured worker who died, you may be able to get Social Security Parent's Insurance Benefits.

General Program Requirements

As a dependent parent, you must meet the conditions below to qualify:

  • Be at least age 62.
  • Be unmarried since the worker's death; some exceptions apply.
  • Received at least half of your support from the worker at certain points in time.
  • Filed proof of support with Social Security within the time limit.
  • Are not entitled to a higher Social Security retirement benefit on your own record.
