    Program Description

    Are you divorced from an ex-spouse who worked long enough under Social Security? If so, you may be able to get benefits on their record.

    General Program Requirements

    As a divorced spouse, you might get benefits if you meet the conditions below:

    • You were married for at least 10 years and divorced at least two years.
    • You are at least age 62 and unmarried.
    • You get a lower benefit amount based on your own work.

    Application Process

    Visit the Information You Need to Apply for Spouse’s or Divorced Spouse’s Benefits – Form SSA-2 page for details on how to apply.

    To find out what other Social Security Administration (SSA) benefits you may qualify for, use the SSA Benefit Eligibility Screening Tool (BEST) on Benefits.gov. When you complete the questionnaire, you get a list of benefits to review. You can print this page for your records.
